Steve was born and raised in Rochester, not far from the church. In 1973, he met Carol and they were married in August 1978. They have three daughters: Heather living in Buffalo, Holly living in Rochester, and Stephanie, an active member of Special Olympics, Genesee Region. Steve has worked as a Service Parts Planning Specialist for Eastman Kodak Company since 1982 while Carol has worked for University of Rochester/Strong Hospital as a Lab Technician since about 1986. They have been residents of the town of Greece since 1980.
Steve is an avid golfer and rides his bicycle to work, as often as weather permits. His hobbies also include scuba diving, downhill skiing, swimming in the pool at home, and gardening around the house. He especially enjoys spending time with his church family and maintaining the church building.
“Every day I thank God for the blessings he continues to shower upon my family and me. Having Jesus in my heart has turned my life in new directions and continues to expand my spirit. I pray for guidance, am grateful for the encouragement and love that is shared with my brothers and sisters, and hope to continue learning and growing as part of God’s family.”
Peter Horne has served as the minister of the Lawson Rd Church of Christ since May 2008.
Peter lived the first 23 years of his life in Australia, mostly in the scenic state of Tasmania. His father was a preacher for a small church, so God was a constant part of his life. He was baptized around the age of 11. His four sisters and two brothers were also all baptized while living at home.
After graduating from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) Peter moved to Melbourne to work with a Christian public accounting firm. After 2 years God prompted and provided for him to attend Harding University Graduate School of Religion in Memphis, Tennessee to prepare for full-time ministry. His first semester at HUGSR was Fall 1999.
While attending HUGSR, Peter met Julie and they married in October 2001. Since then, Peter has ministered to churches in Hernando – Mississippi, Melbourne (Aus), Tasmania (Aus), Memphis-Tennessee, Monroe – Louisiana, and now Rochester – New York. His roles have included: Children’s & Young Adult Minister, Youth Minister, Campus Minister, and Preaching Minister.
My favorite Bible verse is Luke 19:10 “The Son of Man has come to seek and save that which was lost.” This verse primarily refers to me. Jesus came to seek and to save me!! Since I’ve committed my life to following Jesus’ example, I’ve committed to also seeking others that need to be found by Jesus.
